Just a quick note to let everybody know that Smitty and I have set a date for our wedding... We told the family on Thanksgiving, or rather, Smitty asked for my mother's blessing (my father being, regrettably, absent). My mom wouldn't even let him finish his sentence before she was hugging him and making plans with her sister, my aunt, to e-mail everyone! We've set the date for June 22, 2008. Summer Solstice.
I've got clothing, venue, budget, flower, food, guest-list, photographer thoughts in my head the majority of the time.... and I think I've already found my dress... yes, you heard it here, I will be wearing a dress! I'm actually looking forward to it, and am growing my hair out because I'm convinced that long curls are sexy! We're planning on Belize for the honeymoon...
Dear Goddess, I have never before been this happy, or excited, or delighted, or in love...
*sigh*

I've been keeping up with the knitting - mostly I'm scared that if I don't immediately start a project as soon as I've finished one, it'll be months before I pick it up again... and knitting really is relaxing. And it makes me feel as though I'm not actually wasting evening after evening in front of the television - TV becomes the background noise to my creative endeavors! :)
Anyway, here are two projects that I've finished in the last week or so:
Windy City Scarf #2 - This is knit with Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran in red and light gray. I found that this wool, microfiber and cashmere blend is incredibly soft, but shows imperfections very easily especially all the finishing details like sewing in the ends. Nevertheless, here it is.
My dad saw the first scarf I knit and liked it so much he asked me to make him one... The colours are those of his old high school, Lorne Park Secondary. He has a reunion coming up and he said that a new scarf would make him look sexy, so he could attract all his old flings... my mom cringed.
Cute little roll-brimmed hat. A pattern came free with the pre-packaged skein of yarn, but I modified it slightly. The original pattern had the hat come down and cover the ears. I thought that it looked floppy and over-sized that way, so I started my k2tog decrease earlier than the pattern called for.
I can't for the life of me remember what type of yarn this is, but it's super colourful and very easy to work with. If anyone is interested, I'll happily post the type of yarn when I get home tonight.
I've got a list of projects that I have decided to make for Solstice for people. The list keeps growing, of course, but I think that at the rate I'm going, I'll be able to knit them all and then some. I'm so excited! And my knitting skills are slowly improving.
My friend Page at work is showing me how to finish a sweater vest project that was started years ago, so hopefully I'll have pictures of that to post soon!
Fin.

I've been knitting like a fiend for the last little while - I wanted projects that I could finish quickly, to have the satisfaction of knowing that I could complete something from beginning to end... so, here are two of my favourite fast projects from the last month or so... I'll keep posting projects as I finish them.
Voodoo Wrist Warmers from Knitty. I knit the first wrist warmer with a 6-stitch button hole, as called for in the pattern. I didn't follow the button-hole instructions provided, since they were too confusing. Instead, I did a 6-stitch bind off in row 1, finished ribbing the row, and then did a 6-stitch cast on with the cable cast-on on row 2. I found, however, that 6 stitches was too tight, so I did an 8-stitch buttonhole for the second wrist warmer.
Knit with Rowan Tapestry 179 Highland - 70% Wool, 30% Soybean Fiber.
Windy-City Scarf from "Stitch and Bitch". Knit with Elann 100% Highland Wool. It's a cute little scarf, in a simple K1,R1 rib. At the 45 row mark, you rib 15, attach a second skein of A and rib the remaining 15, so that you can knit both sides of the slit at the same time for 10 row, and then resume with a single skein of A... Super fast, super cute.
The slit, where your second colour passes through your first... The design was originally in pink and red, but I thought that brown and cream would work much better together.
Yay!
Happy Knitting everyone!

Does anyone want to go to the Cliks show on May 24th at Lee's Palace?
I think tickets are only $10, and it's general admission.
Let me know on here or send me an e-mail. I have class until 8, but could easily get to Lee's by 8:30 when the doors open.

| Work Opportunity |
[01 Mar 2007|05:08pm] |
I'm leaving my job at PAC... and I've been given free terrain to suggest some people for my replacement. Essentially, you need to be a self-starter, well organized and willing to spend your time sorting files.
The job is flexible around school schedules, plays $12 an hour, and while the position is temporary, if you prove yourself useful it could turn into a more permanent position. My estimate is that the work that needs to be done will last about 3-4 months.
If you are interested, want more information, need details... Let me know.
Oh, the position is at Bay and Bloor... And you need to be willing to put up with snooty-elitist Council members.
Ask for details.

From author Susan Smith comes 'Burning Dreams'. Set in the drag underworld of Buffalo, the sequel to Of Drag Kings and the Wheel of Fate chronicles the challenges faced by a young drag king and an older woman who share a love “outside the bounds.” If that weren’t problem enough, an age-old drama from the past haunts the present and may determine their future. You are The Tower
Ambition, fighting, war, courage. Destruction, danger, fall, ruin.
The Tower represents war, destruction, but also spiritual renewal. Plans are disrupted. Your views and ideas will change as a result.
The Tower is a card about war, a war between the structures of lies and the lightning flash of truth. The Tower stands for "false concepts and institutions that we take for real." You have been shaken up; blinded by a shocking revelation. It sometimes takes that to see a truth that one refuses to see. Or to bring down beliefs that are so well constructed. What's most important to remember is that the tearing down of this structure, however painful, makes room for something new to be built.
What Tarot Card are You? Take the Test to Find Out.

| Voicemail... |
[15 Nov 2006|10:45am] |
I have about a dozen missed calls on my phone, from two different numbers... and no voice mail messages...
It's frustrating. I have voicemail. It's purpose is for me to verify who's calling, know where and when I can reach them, and all the wonderful details.
So, please, please, please, leave a message if you call me. If your number isn't in my phone, or you are calling me from a number I don't recognize, I won't know it's you... And when I work all day and go to class in the evening, I can't always answer my cell... If you leave a message, I can then call you back!!
*Frustrated*

Wow! You totally live on your own planet. Can we visit? You've managed to keep most of your innocent optimism about love, life and everything. If we could bottle your psyche and sell it to depressed people, well, that would be weird... but we'd all be rich! Seriously, how did you get this far in life without bruising?
You couldn't be cuter if you were a basket of kittens. Your seduction style? Adorable and innocent. Oh my golly, people will love you all the way down to your widdle toesies. You deserve a rainbow, and a unicorn. |

| Help?! |
[09 Feb 2006|09:18pm] |

I am conducting a drag work-shop in Peterborough in March and have been asked to incorporate equal amounts of info and insight for kings and queens alike. I'm currently compiling resource lists; one for kings and one for queens. I, however, have never read any of the drag queen fiction and non-fiction on the market. Can anyone make any suggestions on good, relevant and helpful drag queen resources or literature?
